World Bee Day is celebrated on 20th May to raise awareness of the essential role pollinators play in maintaining the health of both people and the planet.
The number of bees, pollinators and many other insects is currently declining. This day proclaimed by the United Nations is an opportunity for governments, organisations, society and citizens to promote actions that protect pollinators and their habitats.
Pollinators play a crucial role from a social, economic and ecological point of view. They contribute to agricultural production, improved rural livelihood, the creation of decent jobs and improved food security and nutrition, among other things.
