A unique heritage in Europe: the fishing trails

Every morning, Valencian fishermen and fisherwomen set out to catch fresh, quality fish. These boats are pushed by a thousand years of knowledge and, as they progress, they navigate the fishing trails in the Mediterranean Sea. Once caught, local fish reaches the markets to nurture local identity and to enhance gastronomic creativity with the diversity offered by the sea. Without the fishers, the sea is extinguished. And with it, our culture.
A website to savour the territory
In order to give visibility to the Valencian fishing heritage and keep it alive through the generations, the initiative “Camins de la Pesca” (Fishing Trails) was born by the Terre Citoyenne Cathedra of the Universitat Politècnica de València and the Consell Alimentari de València, with the collaboration of the Diputació de València and the Ajuntament de València. A website that makes available to the public a living legacy of a material and immaterial nature to revalue the arduous and essential work of the fishers.
A journey through a unique heritage
In the maritime towns of Valencia, more specifically in Cabanyal and Canyamelar, Grao-Nazaret, Perellonet-Pinedo and El Palmar, fishing is an activity that has been carried out for longer than people can remember. Unfortunately, it is a heritage unknown to most of the citizens and even invisible to most visitors who come to the city.
Thanks to the experience offered by the new website, users and visitors can access tours that were designed by tourism experts and thus contemplate the fishing treasures of the region, with itineraries and valuable information about places that, at first glance, may go unnoticed before their eyes.
