As more cities aspire to become climate neutral and as the effects of climate change become increasingly visible, food systems, responsible for nearly 30% of global emissions, cannot be neglected. That is why, on Thursday, 9 March, FAO is organizing in Brussels the information session “Green cities, a pathway for the transformation of agri-food systems in the urban agenda”, which will allow cities and stakeholders to share their experiences on the sustainable urban food agenda.
This meeting coincides with the year in which the European Commission will present the proposal for a legislative framework for sustainable food systems, one of the flagship initiatives of the “Farm to Fork” strategy, which aims to accelerate and facilitate the transition to more sustainable food systems.
Therefore, Eurocities and the Milan Urban Food Policy Pact will also be part of this event to join the conversation on what such a comprehensive policy should look like and share the perspectives, achievements and ambitions of cities to reiterate their essential role in transforming food systems.
