The Institució Alfons el Magnànim-Centre Valencià d’Estudis i d’Investigació published “Pescar en la memòria. Sistemes de pesca tradicional a l’Albufera” (Fishing for memories. Traditional fishing systems in Albufera), an ethnographic study carried out between 2008 and 2012 by Beatriz Santamarina Campos and Aida Vizcaíno Estevan, following the anthropological studies of Professor Ricardo Sanmartín Arce in the 1980s.
The aim of this volume is to analyse the transformations of the lake, its fisheries and its inhabitants over thirty years, including the viewpoint of the protagonists. In turn, the authors reflect on the crisis and transformations of the lake’s fishing sector and the future of fishing in the Albufera natural park.
Furthermore, the ethnographic study deals with all the elements that make up the complex fishing system of the area and that are the result of the capacity for adaptation and the knowledge accumulated over centuries, such as “pesca al cel” (type of fishing) and itinerant fishing, the “redolins”, the utensils and the boats.
