On 21 March, the International Day of Forests is celebrated under the theme “Forests and Sustainable Production and Consumption”. Through the event “Inspire for the Future: the Role of Forests in Ensuring Sustainable Production and Consumption”, the United Nations seeks to raise awareness of the importance of caring for and preserving all forest areas on the planet and, of course, biodiversity.
The existence of forests makes it possible for millions of people to have access to drinking water, cook food and build houses. But it is also changing the way we perceive the world, influencing the textile industry, the way we consume energy and even the field of medicine and the space race.
The event will be held on 21 March at 3pm-6pm GST/12pm-3pm CET. It will feature a high-level panel that will explore ways to accelerate the shift towards a more sustainable consumption and production through innovation, resource efficiency, forest products and ecosystem services.
