Our food systems are facing major challenges that, coupled with the need to find urgent solutions, create the perfect environment for the development of domestic foodtech startups. So much so that there are currently more than 400 Spanish startups involved in developing the future of the agri-food value chain, a figure similar to that found in places like France or the United Kingdom.
The term foodtech refers to all those agents that apply technology to the agri-food value chain, from food production to consumption, providing efficiency, safety and a significant improvement in sustainability. In Spain, this sector has experienced strong growth during 2021 reaching €695 million, up 220% over the previous year, according to data collected by Eatable Adventures.
