Following the variations in the month of May, the Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations (FAO) food price index shows a decrease in international prices of vegetable oils and dairy products with an average of 157.4 points.
The data show a decrease of 0.9 points compared to April and represent a drop of 0.6%. This is the second consecutive monthly decrease, although it is still 29.2 points (22.8%) above the value recorded in the same month last year.
The May decline was due to a decrease in the price indexes for vegetable oils and dairy products, while the price index for sugar also fell, albeit to a lesser extent. Meanwhile, the cereal price index rose by 2.2% and meat reached a new all-time high, increasing by 0.6%.
