The United Nations has declared 2020 as the International Year of Plant Health under the slogan “Protecting plants, protecting life”. The year is a once in a lifetime opportunity to raise awareness on how protecting plant health can help end hunger, reduce poverty, protect the environment and boost economic development.
Did you know that plants constitute 80% of the food we consume and produce 98% of the oxygen we consume? Did you know that the annual value of trade in agricultural products has almost tripled in the last decade, reaching 1.7 trillion USD? To learn about these and other key facts related to the International Year of Plant Health 2020 visit the monographic page that FAO has prepared for the occasion. http://www.fao.org/plant-health-2020
In addition, to expand the scope of this celebration, FAO has launched various public initiatives in which everyone in the world can participate, since we all have a role to play in preserving plant health.
From the planning of events of any kind, dedicated to the general public or experts in the field, to a photo contest for professionals and amateurs of healthy or diseased plants. You can also participate by telling your life story related to plant health, bring the commemorative publicity of the International Year to your town or encourage young people to take action from the world of education.
