How can we know if a food is sustainable? Recently, the Opinion of the European Economic and Social Committee published “Towards a sustainable food labelling framework to empower consumers to make sustainable food choices”. The initiative aims to define a legal framework that rigorously describes what we mean when we talk about sustainable food systems, a necessary step to consider sustainable food labelling.
The objective of this type of labelling is to provide consumers with reliable, clear and understandable information so that they can make an informed purchasing decision, taking into account the sustainability of the planet. In short, this is yet another tool to speed up the path towards a fairer, more inclusive and efficient food system.
