On Thursday, the city of València approved a motion to declare the ‘Tira de Comptar’ as an Asset of Cultural Interest.
The Counting Strip (in Valencian, ‘Tira de Comptar’) is a space where small-scale farmers from l’Horta come to sell their freshly harvested products directly. It is a living testimony of the history of Valencia and its traditions and a unique institution in the world, which has survived since the twelfth century.
In recent years, the Mediterranean city has made a strong commitment to promote the consumption of local products and sustainable food. In this context, new spaces have been installed where direct sales are facilitated, bringing sustainable food closer to citizens and promoting a connection with l’Horta.
