What if we think blue? Say hello to the marine environmental initiative that empowers young people

How much do we know about the bottom of the sea? What about our children? The UNESCO Forum Chair of the Universidad Politécnica de València (UPV) has been working for some time on a project to bring the reality of our oceans closer by providing valuable information on the tangible and intangible Cultural and Natural Marine Heritage. Read to the end and find out how you can join us!
The new landing of the UPV
The initiative “Ocean ART Project” is focused on promoting respect for our seas among children and young people through games, videos, contests, talks and active participation in social networks. But it does not end here, because this project is only the seed of a much more ambitious path: by extension it is also intended to reach parents, siblings and grandparents so that the whole community, as one, is able to recognise and preserve the immense value of our marine cultural heritage.
Because, ultimately, what we do not know, we do not value. What we do not value, we do not take care of. And our seabed today needs a lot of that.
A devastating situation for which we are responsible
With each passing day our seas are deteriorating more and more. A simple decision such as what sunscreen we use in the summer or how we manage our garbage can have enormous consequences. In addition to the use of certain chemicals and plastic waste that are invading the oceans, there is also overfishing, maritime traffic, urban development and the appearance of invasive species.
This has to stop. In order to change the situation, we have an obligation to identify, protect, conserve, rehabilitate and transmit our cultural and natural heritage to future generations. Join us! It’s very easy: share with your children, grandchildren, nephews, nieces or students a quality moment where the seabed is the protagonist. Soak up the value of the sea professionals, their millenary history, and the traditions and culture that make our oceans a unique heritage in the world. Click here to take the plunge!
