In honour of fishing communities, World Fisheries Day is celebrated around the world on 21st November. This time the celebration is even more special since it coincides with the International Year of Artisanal Fisheries and Aquaculture declared by the United Nations.
To raise awareness about small-scale fisheries and aquaculture, on this same day CEMAS and the Cátedra de Tierra Ciudadana (Chair of Sustainable Land) of the Universidad Politécnica de València will present a conference entitled “Food Systems, Heritage and Sustainability in the Mediterranean”. The meeting aims to share knowledge on the socioeconomic, cultural and environmental value of artisanal fishing in the region. It is also an important reminder to focus on changing the way the world manages international fisheries to ensure sustainable stocks and healthy ocean ecosystems.
The event will start at 10 a.m. at the School of Agricultural Engineering and Environment of the Universidad Politécnica de València. Don’t miss it! Click here to register.
