19 August is World Humanitarian Day. The campaign organised annually by the United Nations Office for the Coordination of Humanitarian Affairs (OCHA) demonstrates the importance, effectiveness and positive impact of humanitarian work.
According to FAO data, two out of three acutely food-insecure people depend on agriculture for survival. They hold the key to their own recovery from a crisis, but what they need are the means to do so. This is where FAO plays an essential role.
“We work on the ground with staff and partners in even the most remote communities, are able to deliver humanitarian assistance at critical times, and build on activities already underway to save lives and begin to chart the path to recovery and lasting resilience”, said Mr. Rein Paulsen, FAO Director of Emergencies and Resilience.
Join the tribute to humanitarian workers around the world who are striving to meet ever-increasing needs through the hashtag #WeAreHere.
