On Monday 16 October, at a special ceremony in Rome, FAO presented the prestigious “Heroes of Food” award to the Tribunal de las Aguas de la Vega de Valencia, Spain, for being a reference in the management and collective governance of such a scarce resource as water. The award highlights the institution’s fundamental work in the preservation of natural resources essential for food production.
The award ceremony, attended by CEMAS director Vicente Domingo, took place on World Food Day, an FAO initiative to raise awareness of world hunger and promote actions to transform our food systems into more sustainable models. This year’s theme revolved around water as a fundamental axis.
The tribunal, chaired by Francisco Almenar Cubells, has a history dating back more than a thousand years. Unique in the world, it is responsible for resolving disputes related to the use and distribution of water in the region. Its work is essential to ensure equitable access to water, which is vital for agriculture and food production.
Congratulations on this recognition!
