Driving innovation for a world without hunger

We all have a part to play in reducing the numbers of hungry people in the world: changing a habit, spreading information, coming up with an idea. The thing is, many good solutions to problems in our food systems never see the light of day. To tap the full potential of good ideas, the World Food Programme (WFP) has set up an Innovation accelerator to showcase, mentor and fund innovative, high-impact solutions.
The challenges on the table
Each year, the WFP Innovation Accelerator launches a series of “Innovation Challenges” focusing on a specific problem and encourage innovative solutions to those challenges. The curent edition of the Innovation Challenge aims to support disruptive social innovations that address key challenges in the fight against hunger, in line with Sustainable Development Goal 2: Zero Hunger. On this occasion, the solutions that will be supported are those that can strengthen humanitarian aid and supply chain resilience.
After a thorough selection process, winning initiatives receive up to $100,000 in funding and their teams are given access to WFP’s strong network of public, private and government partners to accelerate project implementation. In addition, selected teams are invited to participate in an innovation bootcamp and sprint programmes to scale solutions, leveraging emerging technologies such as artificial intelligence and robotics.
This year’s call for proposals closed a few months ago, and we can’t wait to hear about the selected projects! Click here to learn more about the WFP Innovation Accelerator.
