The Commission on Genetic Resources for Food and Agriculture is celebrating its 40th anniversary and the importance of its work was highlighted during a meeting in Rome attended by more than 350 delegates and observers.
This intergovernmental body deals with all issues specifically related to biodiversity for food and agriculture, as well as crop varieties, aquaculture livestock and fish and aquatic invertebrates, forest species and aquatic species.
Mr. QU Dongyu, Director-General of the Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations (FAO), stressed during the opening of the 19th Regular Session of the Commission (17-21 July) that “achieving the 2030 Agenda and transforming global agri-food systems requires adopting approaches that sustainably use, conserve and restore biodiversity for food and agriculture.”
