A Valencian book on sustainable gastronomy wins the “Oscar” of gastronomy books

The book Gathering Flavours: 360º in Mediterranean Gastronomic Experiences, which celebrates the culinary richness of the Mediterranean and the region’s commitment to sustainability and in which CEMAS collaborates, has been awarded in Saudi Arabia by the Gourmand World Cookbook Awards, prestigious international awards that recognise excellence in the publication of books dedicated to gastronomy. The work, which stood out among entries from 205 countries, focuses on MICE tourism – which includes conferences, congresses, exhibitions and corporate events – and includes recipes based on the Mediterranean diet, which was declared Intangible Heritage of Humanity by UNESCO, adapted to these formats.

In line with the One Health global strategy

The award-winning book stands out for its content and its carefully chosen photography, as well as for its holistic approach to gastronomy and wellbeing. It also highlights how conscious and collaborative eating can enrich our lives and environment. These ideas are in line with the One Health concept, which calls for increased interdisciplinary collaboration on the health care of people, animals and the environment in order to develop and implement programmes, policies and laws that improve public health.

The book opens a new line of research to continue advancing in sustainable and healthy gastronomy, promoting alliances between public and private sectors to achieve the Sustainable Development Goals. On the other hand, with this international recognition, Valencia continues to strengthen its position as a gastronomic, cultural and tourist destination.

The project, promoted by the Valencia Conference Centre, has had the collaboration of CEMAS, the Fundació Lluís Alcanyís de la Universitat de València, the Valencia Institute of Agricultural Investigations (IVIA), the Faculty of Teacher Training and the  Faculty of Pharmacy from Universitat de València.
